This week my daughter tried out an amazing invention by Dr. Laurence Becker
. The Watch Minder 3 showed up in our mailbox and middle child was incredibly excited. She had been anticipating its arrival for days. It was not a disappointment at all. The Watch Minder 3 is an incredible little watch that works as a tool for people who may need it. It has a variety of uses such as ADD/ADHD, Autism, behavior modification, bedwetting, incontinence, rehabilitation, a medication reminder, and may other reminders. The Watch Minder looks like a normal little watch, but it is anything but that. It is a vibrating, silent, reminder system. The fact that it is silent, yet vibrates, allows the user to be reminded quietly.
Middle child is autistic. She is very high functioning, but has trouble concentrating and remembering many things. As soon as we opened the package, middle child and I sat down and programmed her new watch. I assumed it would be very intense and hard, I was very wrong. The programming process was very easy and user friendly. The watch functions by sending user programmed text messages at specified times. For example, middle child wanted to set snack time for 2:00pm. At 2:00pm, Watch Minder 3 quietly vibrates middle child’s wrist to alert her that it is time for a snack. She set a variety of others, such as brush your teeth, bed time, vitamin time, read for an hour, feed cat, etc.
It is summer, so middle child does not have many pressing issues at this time. She doesn’t have a lot of things that need done by a certain time or things she must remember. I wish she would have had this watch during this past school year, it would have been a lifesaver. She would repeatedly forget her pencil when going to her next class or her books coming home. She would leave her lunchbox in the lunchroom. This watch could have reminded her, quietly, to remember all of those things. She will definitely be using it next year!
The Watch Minder 3 is very quiet and can be used in any classroom. It comes in either black or white. According to middle child, her only complaint was that it did not come in pink. It also features a countdown timer, which is incredibly useful. We used the timer many times during this past week for reading time and time outs.
