Along with all of the wonderful things online for children, there is also a bad side. Kids can fall victim to cyberbullying, sexual content, or predators. There are so many things that we need to be aware of so we can protect our children, but still allow them the freedom of accessing the online world. The BGCA is committed to keeping children safe, and that includes being safe online. Parents who feel that their child is superior to them in technology now have a resource they can turn to. The Boys and Girls Club of America has developed a site just for parents!
Are you unsure if you are Cyber Savvy enough to keep up with you child? The Boys & Girls Club of America has an awesome quiz to help guide you! Take it here! They also have amazing resources that will assist you with the "Cyber Safe" discussion in your home. We used them in our house, and they were a huge benefit. I truly thought I had all the bases covered with my teen, until we went through the resources. Then, I realized there were a few areas I needed to talk about more with my son. We used the BGCA site together and it was an invaluable tool in our discussion. By utilizing resources and sharing information with other parents, you can help kids get the cyber safe future they deserve.
June is Internet Safety Awareness Month, so BGCA and Sprint are inviting parents to submit their top questions about cyberbullying, social networking, online privacy, mobile smarts and other cyber-related issues. Go here to submit your question now, and you could win one of three IPad minis and $500 to the Boys & Girls Club of your choice. BGCA’s Cyber Safety Ambassadors, a panel of Boys & Girls Club teens from around the world, will answer parents’ questions from a teens’ perspective on CyberSafeFutures.org.
You can help you child be safe no matter where they are online! You just need the right tools, and the Boys and Girls Club of America can help!
