So you just found out that you are expecting a baby. Congratulations. With the overwhelming joy comes the worry and stress for many expectant women. You start questioning whether your current home is fit for a baby, want to learn everything about giving birth and bringing up kids in one week, and develop a huge amount of self-doubt, whether or not you are fit to raise a child. If you want to make sure that you are fully prepared for the arrival of your baby, read the below tips.
Make Sure You Have the Right Due Date
While you might be getting a due date from your doctor during your first visit, it will only be an estimate. If you know exactly when your last period started, you can check the facts using a due date calculator. You will also need to get the due date on every printed ultrasound image, and make sure that you are ready on time. Tell your work about your date in time, so they can give you time off in case you need it for checkups and hospital appointments.
Decide on Names Early
The most challenging task for many new parents is picking a name. There are too many things to arrange when you are expecting a new baby, so make sure that you take care of this as soon as possible. Come up with a boy name and a girl name, tick the box, and move on. If you have this step completed, you will be able to move on to other important tasks, such as decorating the nursery or getting essential baby items. Discuss your choices with your family members, who will be happy to help.
Get a Calendar and Schedule all Doctors’ Appointments
It is important that you keep an eye on doctors’ appointments. If you work full time, you will need to ask for time off, and arrange transport to the hospital. Make sure that you get a large calendar that is displayed in your kitchen with your appointment dates, and you set up a reminder on your phone for the day, so you don’t miss them. You don’t want to increase your stress levels during the most blissful months of your life.
Sign Up for a Parenting YourseIf
you are worried about becoming a mother, and have no experience with babies, you might benefit from a local course that explains you how to look after newborns. Local hospitals and clinics offer this service free of charge, and teach you the basics of looking after a little person. This way, you can have the peace of mind that you are prepared for emergencies, and know how to handle situations you are not used to. Find a forum or blog you can follow, and ask questions, so you know everything you need to by the time your baby arrives.

Get Help from Friends and Family Members
If you are a new mother, you are likely to need help from friends and family members. Ask one of your relatives to stay with you, if you have enough space in the house, after the birth. Get your partner involved, and speak to your colleagues who have vivid memories of giving birth and balancing life around young babies. Ask your friends about the best children’s doctors, nurses, and treatments. Get them to recommend you some natural feeding bottles, toys, and accessories. Choose your buggy and car seat, and decorate your nursery. Ask a female family member to help you choosing your baby items, and get help with your nursery design from a local decorator or family member. Remember that the goal is not doing everything yourself, just managing all aspects of having a baby.
Adjust Your Working Patterns
If you work full time while you are expecting a baby, you might want to ask your employer for flexible working hours, or time off. Additionally, you can make arrangements to work from home on some days, which will reduce the level of stress you need to face each day. If you are planning to return to work after your baby is born, you can make an arrangement with your company to allow you to start part time or work from home for some time. This will make your life easier, and show your commitment to your employer.

Getting the news that you are going to have a baby is one of the most exciting events in your life. Make sure that everything goes smoothly, by preparing for the arrival of your child, taking care of work, family life, nursery decoration, and all baby accessories early.
